Hampstead faces an existential threat – Why your property values will drop

You are here:

If the headline sounds exaggerated, please read on. Hampstead residents have many reasons to vote for me and my team, as you have read in my articles and campaign literature, but one issue is of overriding importance. Hampstead is losing its charm, green space and mature trees as monster homes are going up everywhere in Old Hampstead.

The present council, including my two opponents, voted unanimously for a by-law change that allows people to demolish charming homes in Old Hampstead and replace them with new ones three times as large. Drive around and see for yourself.

Mayor Levi is proud of cutting rules and making it easy for people to build their dream homes. These monster homes eliminate large green yards and many mature trees. The charming character of these homes is lost as one after another is demolished.

People pay a premium to live in Hampstead because of how beautiful the town looks but very soon it will be lost. Once it goes it can never be recovered. Then why would people pay more to live in Hampstead than in Cote St.-Luc where taxes are much lower and there are far more facilities? Aside from being slightly closer to downtown, the only thing that distinguishes us is our charming garden city look.

Other than the demerger referendum which my wife, Doris, and I led, there has never been a more important vote in Hampstead. It is now or never. The destruction of Old Hampstead has begun, and it will accelerate rapidly unless you elect me and the members of my team: Vanessa Blandford, Norman Levine, Doris Steinberg and Luc Vernhes.

Don’t let our beautiful town be destroyed!

    • It may be a close election so it is crucial that everyone comes out to vote for me and all members of our team. Re the lines to vote there will be twice as many polls Sunday and 2 extra hours to vote. Still even if the lines are long, it is only once every 4 years and this election is crucial.

      Thanks for your support.
