When I first heard about the being “woke,” I laughed. It was so stupid, so juvenile, so self-righteous. How could people fall for this nonsense? Surely, clear thinking people would see through the absurdities. Well, I was wrong.
When one considers what Japan did in World War II, one might wonder how I can even suggest that Japan is the most civilized country in the world. Nevertheless, having just returned from a little over three weeks there, it is certainly the impression that I am left with.
This Friday at least 306 residents must come out and sign the Register at the Hampstead Community Centre 30 Lyncroft between 9 am and 7 pm. Otherwise, the by-law will pass with no further council votes and Old Hampstead will be changed forever.
In April, 2021 the Hampstead council passed a draft by-law to raise the FSI (a measure of house volume) from .52 to .80 in Old Hampstead. That is a dramatic 54% increase. That would be bad enough but the true effect will be a doubling and tripling in the size of homes in Old Hampstead.
Politicians of all stripes are weighing in on the Roxham Road immigrant/refugee “problem” and there is push back from various organizations who feel bad for the refugees. Both sides are using half truths to make their cases.
Our modern world has amazing sights that even the most visionary thinkers could not imagine a mere century ago. In contrast, there still exist places with buildings and monuments that are hundreds of years old and demonstrate craftmanship and artistry that you could never recreate today.
So the Federal government will give more of our tax dollars to the provinces for health care but not as much as the provinces wanted. What else is new? This has been happening at regular intervals for the last several decades and the result has been a steady erosion of health care in Canada.
Why is Bill 21 so bad?
The law bans people in various positions of authority in the Quebec civil service from wearing religious symbols. It applies to judges, prosecutors, teachers, prison guards, police officers, government inspectors and others.
